Bug & Butterfly Cookies

Updated: Jul 16, 2020

These bug and butterfly cookies were a huge hit with my kids and a way to get creative! You can really make them anyway you want. And they taste delicious!

Supplies:

🔲 sugar cookie dough (premade or your fave recipe)

🔲 white frosting

🔲 items to make bugs:

berries, pretzel sticks, mandarin oranges, candy eyes, sprinkles, etc. We added items as we went!

To Make:

Begin by making your cookies. In our case, we simply placed the pre-made dough on the cookie sheet. 😊 I love making cookies with my kids from scratch, but we wanted to save time with this project and get right to the decorating!

While your cookies are baking, you can set up your decorating station with all the yummy things to make bugs.

When your cookies are cool, it’s time to decorate! Spread a thin layer of frosting on the cookies.

Then use your decorations to design your bugs however you’d like. Think pretzels for antennae, strawberry halves for wings, blueberries for the body, you get the idea!

We loved brainstorming different bugs and then looking at pictures of them online to give us an idea of how to make them with the supplies we had.

Then comes the best part—eating your bug creations! 🦋🐜🐛🐞

What kind of bugs did you make? Let us know by sharing photos/video @little.sunshine.mom! ☀️
